Tetris Didn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a major honors show approaches, one notices a demand for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would board games, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
